From a variety of sources including BBC, USA Today, Skift, Americans Travel Report, Golf Business News and others – Here are some travel insights into getting away with your sticks in 2025. According to the Americans Travel Report 50% of us will travel internationally in 2025 – even for a day – there is more than likely a golf experience waiting for you whether a major city like London or a remote locale like seeing the gorillas in Uganda.
- Less crowded & unique venues – With golf played in over 200 countries and territories – skip the Top 100 and look for destinations that appeal off course as well as on – no matter what your interests. And with the availability of good rentals worldwide – you no longer must drag/ship your bag across the globe. Some ideas – Africa, Scotland’s Islands, Tasmania, Columbia, Scandinavia, Oman.
- Multigenerational – families prioritizing time spent together. With the popularity of VRBO, Airbnb and other exclusive use properties there are no shortage of destinations for families to enjoy time together from an individual family of parents and children to an entire clan gathering. You can play golf; they can sightsee and you all can be together in the evenings and for special events.
- Traveling for events – and no not just golf tournaments – Most headliners play dates across Europe and other destinations – consider planning the trip around a great concert or cultural event and teeing it up – even for a day nearby.
- Long-haul Travel – for Americans that mostly means – Africa and Oceania – this combines perfectly with travel in 2025 that Skift calls “the year of long getaways”.
- Day and Night activities – BBC cited Noctourism as a coming trend – several destinations have night golf – especially in Asia – across an entire championship course. At Lofoten Links above the Arctic Circle in Norway – traveling in the fall usually ensures a fabulous Northern Lights display. Beaches around the world feature bioluminescence creatures to view after your round.
- Slow Travel – like Slow food is also gaining in popularity. Instead of traversing all of a country playing 36 a day and changing hotels every night – pick a location and truly explore and discover it.
- Consider Traveling Solo. The dirty little secret in even the busiest of golf destinations is that there is usually a single slot available during the day. Be flexible and be socialable and you may find yourself playing with members and discovering a home-away-from-home club or two.
